Valentine’s Day Date Ideas
1- Chocolate Fondu
Scott and I did dinner at The Melting Pot on Valentine’s Day once…except it wasn’t actually ON Valentine’s Day which ended up being an awesome decision. Because if it had been on the actual day, the $70ish meal for 2 that we got would’ve ended up costing us $200+! I think you get a rose or something but still! #notworthit!
So I give you two options with this date idea. If $70 is in your budget then totally go to the Melting Pot on a day other than Valentine’s Day and enjoy a FANTASTIC 3 course meal. If $70 is a bit much, your other option is to just head there for chocolate dessert fondu. Because really, isn’t the chocolate the part that everyone goes there for anyway? Check out their menu, our favorite chocolate fondu is the Yin and Yang…a combo of dark and white chocolate.
2- Alphabet Scavenger Hunt
To this day, our Alphabet Scavenger Hunt Date was one of the best times we’ve ever had. The way it works is that you pick a location in your town, or wherever, and walk around taking pictures of objects that look like letters of the alphabet. You can then make some really awesome wall art with the pics you take.
If you’re into a little competition, you can team up with another couple and make the hunt a timed event to see which couple completes the alphabet first. The couple that loses has to buy the other couple coffee.
3- “Free/Pay What You Can” Night at Local Events
So, this Valentine’s Day date may not actually happen ON Valentine’s Day but, that’s ok. Check out your town’s community websites to find out when “Pay What You Can” night happens for local museums, botanical gardens, even live theatres. It’s a great way to contribute to your community and try something new all while staying in your budget.
I’m always hesitant to suggest Groupon as a solution to every day shopping only because it’s so easy to forget about your Groupons and then have them go unused and that just ends up being a waste of money. But for specific events, like V-Day where you have definite plans, Groupon Deals can be a great way to go.
If you don’t know what Groupon is, it’s a deal website where businesses offer deep discounts on their services with the hope that you’ll try them, like them, and become a repeat customer. There are TONS of deals for restaurants, events and weekends away. If you don’t find anything via Groupon then also check out Living Social which is very similar but often has different deals.
5- Online Cooking Class/New Recipe Night
If going out is just out of the budget picture all together than how about a night in? Pinterest has like 4Billion recipes that are just waiting there for you. If you want more direction than a written recipe can give then head on over to The Food Network and check out one of their free full length video cooking tutorials.
6- Babysitting Swap Night
This isn’t so much a date idea as it is a way to save money ON your date night. I know that babysitting can get expensive so, why not do a babysitting swap with another couple? One couple goes out on a Friday night while the other couple watches their kids and then the other couple uses them as the babysitters on a Saturday night while they go out.
This could also work well as a monthly thing because every couple needs some alone time!
Valentine’s Day DIY Gifts For Your Love
Ok, so now that you hopefully have some date night ideas, lets talk about gifts. When it comes to Valentine’s Day, I like giving small gifts that can be enjoyed by you both.
We’re going to start this list with my absolute favorite one! The Dating Divas Year of Dates! I love this one because it’s kinda the gift that keeps on giving AND, most of the work has already been done for you.
The Year of Dates 2.0 pack from The Dating Divas is as easy and creative as it gets! I got the digital files, took them to FedEx to print then, grabbed a bright binder and that was that!
Here’s how I put it together…
Binder Printables – I used these to decorate the outside of the binder with a printable cover, spine, and back cover. Dividers – Each date is organized and separated by the month.
Date Night Explanation Page – Each month’s date includes a detailed explanation page including any additional materials and instructions for completing the date.
Date Night Printables – The twelve creative and fun date night ideas all include printables that go along with the date.
Once I had everything together, there was some cutting to do, but that’s really the only ‘work’ involved and it didn’t take too long considering it was for TWELVE dates. Now, they’re all in the binder and once a month we’ve got an easy date night that’s almost always more creative than what we would’ve come up with!
I went the ‘lazy’ route and stuck with the original dates because I wanted to get everything put together as quickly as possible, plus the dates did look like a lot of fun:
January – If the Shoe Fits Date Night – Learn more about your sole-mate with this hilarious game of questions for couples.
February – Win it in a Minute Sexy Games – Silly, sexy games for an evening in the bedroom!
March – Super Store Sweep – A hilarious competition at your local supermarket!
April – Jelly Bean Date – A sweet set of games and activities centered around delicious jelly beans.
May – Believe It or Not Date Night – A fun at-home date night that leaves you questioning what is fact or fiction.
June – Hiking Date – Escape with your sweetheart to the great outdoors!
July – Food Truck Date Night – A dinner date night on-the-go!
August – Ultimate Mini Golf Date Night – A game of golf that is guaranteed to be a HOLE lot of fun! September – The Library Date – A fun and free date night at your local library!
October – Haunted House Date Night – A night of fright for you and your “Boo”.
November – Spouse Scattergories – A hilarious game that is all about your spouse!
December – Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt – Enjoy the sights and sounds of Christmas as you race to complete a unique scavenger hunt!
This is really the perfect choice if you’re short on time or creativity but still want something super fun and sweet!
“Open When” Envelopes feel like the gift that keeps on giving. The idea is to create a bunch of different notes that are perfect for that “I really needed that today” moment. On the outside of the envelope, you’ll write when they should open it…”open when you’re sad”, “open when you’re lonely”, “open when work is frustrating”, “open when we have a fight”…Ok, they don’t have to all be depressing but, you get the idea.
This is so cute and shows your lover how much you really know them. The “Favorite Things” Bag is just that, a collection of some of their favorite things. If I was to create Scott’s Favorite Things Bag, it would include a Starbuck’s Gift Card, Sour Patch Kids, a pair of funky socks, and a Diet Pepsi.
4- Scavenger Hunt
So, this Scavenger Hunt is different than the one listed in the date section because this is a scavenger hunt you create FOR the person instead of WITH the person. The surprise at the end of the hunt is…YOU! #bowchicbowbow!!! (that was my sexy sound!)
Here are 2 to try…
I love this Mason Jar gift because it’s another one that’s just about being creative and knowing your partner. You don’t have to spend a lot on it, just fill it with something special that shows them your love.
If your guy…or girl is not really into the lovey dovey but will appreciate the finer ales in life than maybe this is an option?! Decorate the bottles however you want and enjoy a cold one together.
So there you have it. Create and fun ways to enjoy and awesome Valentine’s Day and still be able to pay the rent! Now that you’ve read this list, comment below and tell me what your V-Day plans are!
